984 FXUS66 KSTO 140826 AFDSTO Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Sacramento CA 126 AM PDT Wed Aug 14 2024 .SYNOPSIS... Near to slightly below normal temperatures persist this week alongside periodically breezy diurnal winds. && .Discussion... Another night, another Delta breeze bringing cooler temperatures and good overnight humidity recoveries to much of the Valley. While temperatures right now, even in the Sacramento metropolitan area, are a bit warm still (many stations are reporting current temps between 69 and 77 degrees in the Valley), lows are still expected to decrease quite a bit tonight. The forecast calls for temps in the Valley between the high 50s and low 60s, and relative humidities primarily in the 50 to 80% range. When that natural air conditioning that is the Delta Breeze will kick in exactly remains to be seen though. Later today, and continuing through the end of the week, high temperatures will remain near to slightly below normal, though warming slightly from the past couple of days as the trough over us moves eastward and weakens. No need to fear the return of above normal temperatures though, a small, secondary trough is slated to move through late week, followed by a larger trough developing along the coast early over the weekend. Exact placement of the trough will help determine the exact temperature pattern over interior NorCal this weekend. However, on Saturday, we can likely expect some breezy conditions as the pattern evolves, along with temperatures in the high 80s to low 90s. && .EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Sunday THROUGH Wednesday)... Some uncertainty between ensembles and cluster analysis on this placement has some uncertainty in the temperature forecast later in the weekend. There is little disagreement on whether the trough will exist and it`s intensity. However, slight changes in the exact placement will have an impact on the temperatures we see here across interior NorCal. Right now there is an 50 to 75% probability of temperatures below 90 degrees on Sunday, with 20 to 50% through Wednesday. In general though, even with the uncertainty temperatures are expected to remain fairly stable in the extended period, it`s more a matter of timing and initial conditions. We`ll likely have more clarity on this in the next couple of days. && .AVIATION... VFR conditions prevail next 24 hours except local MVFR vicinity Park Fire. Surface wind gusts generally less than 12 kts except local southwest 15-25 kts west Delta and Sierra Nevada after 21Z. && .STO WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... None. && $$
