Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Sacramento CA
230 AM PDT Sun Aug 11 2024

.SYNOPSIS...
Cooler temperatures and locally breezy at times this week.

&&

.Discussion...
Overall little change as high pressure maintains its grip. Some
mid and high clouds continue to move up from the southwest, but
skies remain mostly clear. Current temperatures are relatively
unchanged compared to 24 hours ago except across portions of the
Sacramento Valley where readings are slightly milder due to a
slackening of the Delta Breeze. Humidity is lower (around 5-15%)
in most areas compared to early Saturday.

High pressure will weaken across the region early this week as a
weak trough sags down into NorCal from the PacNW. Temperatures
will begin to cool today, with more substantial cooling spreading
across the region beginning Monday as onshore flow increases, and
high temperatures will actually be a little below average.

It`ll also be locally breezy at times as the transition to onshore
flow takes place, but humidity will also gradually rise. A
stronger short-wave is forecast to move across NorCal on Monday
which may bring some sprinkles or light showers, but otherwise the
dry pattern will continue.

.EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Thursday THROUGH Sunday)...
Short wave trough/low progged across northern portions of CA on
Thursday with main light precip threat remaining north of our CWA.
Another upper low then progged to dig S off the W Coast Friday.
Models differ with how progressive this feature will be but either
scenario shows continued synoptic cooling over the area into the
weekend as heights/thicknesses trend down. Dry weather with below
normal high temperatures expected through the extended period with
80s in the Central Valley and 60s to low 80s for the mountains
and foothills.

&&
