611 FXUS64 KSJT 141738 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 1238 PM CDT Sun Jul 14 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 303 AM CDT Sun Jul 14 2024 The upper level ridge is currently centered over southern Colorado and northern New Mexico early this morning. This ridge will remain in place, and possibly even slightly expand somewhat to the southeast. This will keep rain chances out of the forecast for our area today, and warm temperatures a 2-3 degrees across the area. We could see a few morning low clouds mainly south of Interstate 20, but these should scatter out by mid to late morning. Otherwise, expect a few upper level clouds, highs in the mid 90s to around 100 degrees, and southerly winds 5 to 15 mph. Tonight, south/southeast winds will diminish to 5 to 10 mph, with lows mainly in the low to mid 70s. && .LONG TERM... (Monday through Saturday) Issued at 303 AM CDT Sun Jul 14 2024 Temperatures will continue to increase for the first half of the work week as the 850 mb thermal ridge pushes further east into our area. Highs on Monday and Tuesday could approach 104 in some areas, with the warmest temperatures in the Concho Valley and Big Country. Precipitation chances will remain low during this time period, as the upper level ridge continues to sit to our west. Moisture will be on the rise for the second half of the work week, with PWAT values in the 1.5 to 2 inch range on Thursday. With this increase in moisture, we`ll see increased cloud cover and the potential for heavy rainfall with any storms that develop. A cold front is forecast to push through the area on Thursday. Rain chances will increase along and behind the front. Moisture will remain high post frontal passage, leaving the potential for showers and thunderstorms for Friday through the weekend. We`ll also see slightly cooler temperatures starting Thursday, with highs mainly in the low to mid 90s. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1235 PM CDT Sun Jul 14 2024 VFR conditions expected the next 24 hours. South winds will gust near 20 knots this afternoon but will diminish by early evening. Expect light winds overnight, with south winds becoming breezy again after 15Z tomorrow. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
