440 FNUS56 KPQR 081557 AAA FWFPQR Fire Weather Planning Forecast for NW Oregon and SW Washington...UPDATED National Weather Service Portland OR 857 AM PDT Mon Jul 8 2024 ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 7 PM PDT THIS EVENING FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONE 685, WHICH COVERS THE SOUTHERN WILLAMETTE VALLEY... .DISCUSSION...Strong high pressure aloft will maintain very hot and dry conditions for inland areas through Tuesday. Breezy north winds Monday afternoon over the southern Willamette Valley with gusts up to 25 mph and humidities as low as 15%, resulting in critical fire weather conditions. Any humidity recovery tonight will be minimal for the midslopes and ridges. Thermal low pressure will strengthen over western Oregon, enhancing instability today and especially Tuesday, mainly over the higher Cascades as these elevations will be poking above a stable layer. This may result in some cumulus buildups along the Cascade crest Tuesday afternoon, however conditions appear too dry for showers or thunderstorms to develop. Thermal low pressure shifts east of the Cascades Tuesday night, bringing stable onshore flow, relatively cooler temperatures, and higher RH Wednesday and beyond. Very hot days will make conditions dangerous for anyone working outside. Those who must work outdoors should take frequent breaks and remain as hydrated as possible.
