FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UPPER MICHIGAN
National Weather Service Marquette MI
503 AM EDT Sun Jul 7 2024

...More Showers and Thunderstorms Over the West This Afternoon...

.DISCUSSION: A weak low pressure moving into our area is expected
fire up some showers and thunderstorms over the western U.P.
today, particularly during the afternoon as ridging over the east
generally keeps that half dry during the daylight hours. While no
area-wide soaking is expected over the west, we could see some
localized heavy downpours in some of the showers and
thunderstorms; we could also see some frequent lightning in some
of the stronger storms. Winds will be mainly southerly today,
making the warmest areas the downslopes near Lake Superior. While
highs today are expected to be in the mid 70s to around 80 across
the area, min RHs are only expected to drop down to the 50
percents across the U.P. this afternoon. Expect a full RH recovery
tonight as showers and thunderstorms dwindle down but continue
into the central and eventually eastern U.P., where they look to
fire up late tonight/early Monday morning. More rain showers and
thunderstorms are expected to develop across most of the area
Monday as a secondary low lifts into the Upper Midwest. Heavy
downpours and frequent lightning are also a threat with some of
the stronger storms on Monday too.
