Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
314 PM CDT Fri Aug 16 2024

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...

.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Saturday night)
Issued at 303 PM CDT Fri Aug 16 2024

Satellite and radar is much quieter today than it has been the
past few days. We may see a few showers pop up over the Davis and
Guadalupe mountains, but little rainfall is expected. A building
upper level high pressure system will continue the heat and
dryness into tomorrow and another Heat Advisory has been issued
for the northeastern Permian Basin and western Low Rolling plains.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday through Thursday)
Issued at 303 PM CDT Fri Aug 16 2024

The extended forecast shows no relief in sight as high pressure
maintains its dominance over Texas and New Mexico. Highs range
throughout the period from the mid to upper 90s in the mountains
to the low 100s across the remainder of the area. A few readings
110+ will be seen along the Rio Grande. Everyone should take
precautions to protect against heat stress, even if not in an area
covered by a Heat Advisory/Warning.
