058 FNUS54 KLUB 030930 FWFLUB Fire Weather Planning Forecast for the South Plains Area National Weather Service Lubbock TX 430 AM CDT Wed Jul 3 2024 .DISCUSSION... ERC values continue to creep up, thanks to our persistent hot weather with some indications that fuels are becoming more receptive to ignition as there was one reported lightning start yesterday. Fortunately, there was light to moderate rain across a lot of the far southern Texas Panhandle and South Plains last evening and this morning but not enough to completely moisten fuels. Temperatures will be hot once again today but similar to the past few days relative humidity values will remain near or above 20 percent. These humidity values combined with wind speeds generally below 15 mph will limit the potential for rapid fire spread. Showers and isolated thunderstorms may persist for much of the day across the far southwestern Texas Panhandle into the northwestern South Plains with a gradual southward and eastward shift late this afternoon and evening. Stronger storms will have the potential to produce gusty and erratic winds up to 60 mph along with cloud-to-ground lightning.
