.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1030 PM EDT Fri Aug 16 2024

Currently - Its been a wet evening for much of the Keys this
evening. This can be attributed to the combination of copious
lower level moisture, weak steering currents, and island cloudline
and mainland boundaries. On top of this, high pressure building
southwestward across Florida and the Gulf is driving an incoming
prevailing light to gentle easterly flow which is enhancing lower
level confluence across our area. MRMS indicated over six inches
of rain over portions of the Florida Bay while many island
locations received one to two inches. Activity is finally winding
down but a few locations near Long Key continue to receive
moderate to heavy rain. Thanks to the rain and late afternoon
cloud cover, temperatures are already well into the lower 80s for
much of the Keys with dew points still steamy in the upper 70s.

Short Term Update - Ridging across Florida and the Gulf Coast will
remain in control of our winds through the overnight period. Winds
will remain light to gentle and broadly out of the east. This flow
will do little to dislodge the moisture axis as this axis runs
east to west and the lower level steering flow remains nebulous
through. Expect shower activity to continue to wane in the near
term but is expected to pick up again late in the night as the
boundary layer recharges and new boundaries move in. Expect
overnight lows in the lower 80s with dew points generally
remaining in the upper 70s.
