In 2011, a small cluster of thunderstorms moved across Wallace County, Kansas during the pre-dawn hours packing winds close to 100 mph. Twenty-five irrigation pivots were overturned, and numerous grain bins, outbuildings and utility poles were damaged or destroyed. Later in the day, an outbreak of damaging tornadoes occurred over Graham and Norton Counties in Kansas. A total of sixteen tornadoes were documented, including three rated EF3. One tornado narrowly missed the town of Almena in Norton, County. Five people escaped serious injury by hiding under a table in the basement when their home was completely destroyed. $$
