Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
313 AM CDT Thu Jul 4 2024

Today:

Skies were still mostly clear over northeast sections of Iowa early
this morning, but clouds were increasing elsewhere with scattered
showers and a few storms across western Iowa. Temperatures were fairly
typical for early July heading toward daybreak, with muggy conditions
and readings from the middle 60s to lower 70s. Winds were light and
variable.

Skies should be mostly cloudy across much of the state by later this
morning with scattered showers and a few storms drifting eastward.
Temperatures in the 70s should be common approaching noontime.
Additional scattered thunderstorms are expected later in the
afternoon, especially north, where some strong to severe storms with
locally heavy rains will be possible. High temperatures should vary
from the 70s northwest to lower 80s southeast.

Tonight and beyond:

Lingering scattered showers and thunderstorms possibly affecting
fireworks displays can be expected across Minnesota, parts of
northern and eastern Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois this evening. A few
of those storms may still be severe during the evening. Overnight lows
across the region should be in the upper 50s to middle 60s.

Chances for showers and storms will linger across Iowa and states to
the north and east Friday, but Friday night and Saturday morning
should be dry. That break will be short lived however with additional
chances for showers and storms Saturday afternoon and through the
remainder of the weekend, although the severe weather potential
appears low at this time. Highs Saturday and Sunday should be in the
middle 70s to lower 80s.
