074 FNUS55 KABQ 062103 FWFABQ Fire Weather Planning Forecast for North and Central New Mexico National Weather Service Albuquerque NM 303 PM MDT Sat Jul 6 2024 ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING FOR THE NORTHWEST PLATEAU DUE TO VERY LOW HUMIDITY AND STRONG WINDS AND AN UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE... .DISCUSSION... Breezy west northwest winds are being observed in many zones this afternoon, especially in northwestern zones where much drier air is also being brought in. This is leading to low humidity of 10 to 15 percent in northwestern to north central zones, and this is only expected to worsen on Sunday. The northwest winds on Sunday will also be gustier, bringing in drier and hotter conditions. In fact, wind speeds in northwestern New Mexico look to be high enough for critical fire weather conditions as speeds will occasionally reach 35 mph. Elsewhere, the gusty conditions will not be quite as strong. A moist cold front will bring up humidity Sunday night into Monday while also producing some shifting and gusty winds itself, especially in central gaps and canyons where localized gusts of 40 to 60 mph will be possible. Winds will settle into Monday afternoon with a more active shower and thunderstorm pattern getting underway for much of the forecast area and lasting through much of the upcoming work week.
