West northwest winds have been gustier over many western and central zones today, bringing in drier and hotter conditions. Wind speeds have been strongest in northwestern New Mexico where critical fire weather conditions will be possible through the early evening. In eastern New Mexico, a moist cold front is entering the area, bringing up humidity and triggering thunderstorms. The front will advance farther south and west tonight into early Monday, causing winds to shift and then accelerate through central gaps and canyons where localized gusts of 35 to 55 mph will be possible. Winds will settle into Monday afternoon with thunderstorms developing over the northern mountains and then drifting southward. Through the rest of the week, a more active shower and thunderstorm pattern is forecast for much of the forecast area, but particularly between the Continental Divide and the central mountain chain of New Mexico on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
