.DISCUSSION...
Update: Isolated thunderstorm risk has been removed tonight
south and west of Galena.
This evening will see continuing hot and dry weather for Western
Alaska, with temperatures in most of the Western Interior rising
into the 70s and 80s and minimum relative humidity values falling
into the 30s and 40s percent. South of Huslia, extensive cloud
cover and in some areas, rain, will keep temperatures lower, with
some areas only rising into the 60s and minimum RH values
bottoming out in the 60s and 70s percent. Winds will generally be
from the west in the 10-15 mph range. Isolated thunderstorms will
be possible in the southwestern Interior in areas with enough
clearing to permit surface heating.
Tonight into Tuesday will see a significant pattern change as a
front over eastern Russia moves in, bringing widespread wetting
rains and dropping temperatures in most of the Western Interior
from the 70s and 80s into the 60s and 70s as remnant upper-level
high-pressure ridging gets pushed to the south. With increasing
moisture, minimum RH values will generally be in the 40s percent
or higher, with a few places possibly reaching the upper 30s.
Western Alaska, especially from Galena to Nome and north, will see
increasing southwesterly winds mostly in the 15 to 20 mph range
with gusts up to 30 mph, with higher winds likely on the Seward
Peninsula and in the terrain. The front will usher in more stable
air and thus limit thunderstorm potential over the ensuing days.
Wednesday onward will see widespread rainfall spread southwest and
temperatures continue to fall, with most areas only making it
into the 50s and 60s Wednesday and mostly just the 50s on
Thursday. Minimum RH values will rise well above critical
thresholds. Increased southwesterly winds will continue on
Wednesday before dropping and becoming more southerly on Thursday.
