179 FZCA72 TJSJ 020917 MWSSJU Marine Weather Statement National Weather Service San Juan PR 517 AM AST Tue Jul 2 2024 AMZ711-712-716-723-726-733-735-741-021400- Atlantic Waters of Puerto Rico and USVI from 10 NM to 19.5N- Coastal Waters of Northern Puerto Rico out 10 NM- Coastal Waters from Cabo San Juan to the waters between Anegada Island and Virgin Gorda and North 10 NM- Anegada Passage east of Virgin Gorda and Saint Croix south to 17N- Coastal waters east of Puerto Rico, around Vieques, and around and just north of Culebra and Saint John- Caribbean waters of Puerto Rico from 10 NM to 17N, including the coastal waters of Saint Croix- Coastal Waters of Southern Puerto Rico out 10 NM- Mona Passage Southward to 17N- 517 AM AST Tue Jul 2 2024 ...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE WATERS... At 510 AM AST, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots. These thunderstorms were located over the offshore Caribbean and Atlantic waters, and across the local passages between the U.S. Virgin Islands and eastern Puerto Rico, moving eastward about 20 knots. These thunderstorms will continue to increase through the morning hours as they are associated to the rainbands from Major Hurricane Beryl. Strong gusty winds around 40 to 45 knots or higher are possible across the Caribbean waters and the Mona Passage through this period. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 40 knots, locally higher waves, and frequent lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately. $$
