907 FXZS60 NSTU 040117 AFDPPG Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pago Pago AS 217 PM SST Wed Jul 3 2024 .Short term... Latest satellite data shows breezy and fair weather over the territory as a high pressure system lingers in the area. The highest sustained winds were seen this morning near 25 mph. However, models have been consistent in the gradual decrease in wind speeds through the end of the week as the aforementioned high pressure moves eastward tonight. Hence, expect winds to diminish to 10 to 20 mph for Independence Day, becoming even lower on Friday. By Saturday, a gentle breeze is possible due to a trough developing close by. We anticipate an uptick in showers and variable winds up to 10 mph for this time. Another high pressure system will develop behind the trough for the new week. Expect a round of trade winds and passing showers for the rest of the forecast period. .Marine... Latest observations at the Aunu`u PacIOOS buoy are around 9 to 12 feet. These heights are within high surf and small craft advisory thresholds due to the winds. However, as winds start to decrease on the 4th of July, expect waves to follow a subsiding trend by the afternoon. Seas will continue to gradually diminish below advisory thresholds Friday through Saturday. Thereafter, large waves will return as trade winds pick up by Sunday. && .PPG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... High Surf Advisory Small Craft Advisory && $$ TM
