093 FXZS60 NSTU 050031 AFDPPG Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pago Pago AS 131 PM SST Thu Jul 4 2024 .Short term... A ridge of high pressure, that has given elevated easterly trade winds and drier than average weather this week, is beginning to move away from the region. Satellite imagery has shown more sun than clouds throughout the morning and early afternoon hours, but showers are seen to the east and moving towards the region. As the ridge moves further away, winds will continue to decrease and a trough is expected to develop throughout the next couple of days. Winds are to decrease to a light and variable wind by Saturday morning. However, the possibility of rain forecast through at least Saturday night is anticipated to cause flash flooding. Temperatures, overall, are expected to remain average .Long term... Another strong ridge is expected to move over the territory on Sunday and will remain in place through the middle of the week. This will generate southeasterly winds up to 25 mph. More passing trade wind showers are expected during this time compared to the ridge that throughout this past week. However, severe weather is not anticipated. && .Marine... The latest information from the PacIOOS buoy to the east of Aunu`u still shows elevated seas around 9 feet as of early Thursday afternoon. Seas will begin to slowly ease as the strong easterly breeze will eventually become a gentle breeze by Saturday. However, sea heights are only expected to ease to around 6 to 8 feet by Saturday, which is still in the Small Craft Advisory criteria. Another ridge moves over the region to increase winds on Sunday and to eventually reach up to a fresh to strong southeasterly breeze early to mid week.
