The National Weather Service in Newport has issued a

* Special Marine Warning for...
  Pamlico Sound...
  Pamlico and Pungo Rivers...
  S of Cape Hatteras NC to Ocracoke Inlet NC out to 20 nm...
  S of Oregon Inlet NC to Cape Hatteras NC out to 20 nm...

* Until 400 PM EDT.

* At 224 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms capable of producing
  waterspouts were located along a line extending from 9 nm southwest
  of Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge to near Engelhard to near
  The Mouth Of The Pamlico River, moving east at 20 knots.

  HAZARD...Waterspouts, wind gusts to 40 knots, and small hail.

  SOURCE...Radar.

  IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally
           hazardous seas. Small craft could be damaged in briefly
           higher winds and suddenly higher waves.

* Locations impacted include...
  Cape Hatteras, Engelhard, Hatteras Village, Hatteras Inlet, Ar230,
  Swanquarter, Ar220, The Mouth Of The Pamlico River, Pamlico Sound,
  Ar225, Rodanthe, and The Center Of The Pamlico Sound.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Move to safe harbor immediately as gusty winds and high waves are
expected.

Frequent lightning is occurring with these storms. If caught on the
open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded
metal objects.

Report severe weather to the Coast Guard or the National Weather
Service.
