NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0843 PM CDT Sat Jun 29 2024

Areas affected...portions of northwestern Oklahoma

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 487...

Valid 300143Z - 300245Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 487
continues.

SUMMARY...The severe threat continues across Severe Thunderstorm
Watch 487. Severe gusts and perhaps a couple instances of hail may
accompany the stronger storms that remain. The severe threat should
gradually wane through the evening.

DISCUSSION...Multicell and pulse single cells continue to percolate
in intensity near the stationary surface front across northwestern
OK. Occasional instances of severe hail and wind were noted with
these storms earlier. Given the lack of strong steering flow,
ongoing and earlier storms have likely overturned tropospheric lapse
rates along much of the front, suggesting that the severe threat has
likely peaked in coverage and intensity across northwestern OK.
Nonetheless, a few intense updrafts have recently developed over
Dewey County, so a few areas of pristine airmass may remain to
support strong thunderstorms producing an instance or two of severe
gusts/hail.
