Afternoon temperatures will top out in the 90s to around 100 degrees. Maximum heat index values will range from 100 to 110 degrees from Tuesday through Friday. Chances of showers and thunderstorms will increase Wednesday night into Friday as a cold front arrives from the north. Strong to damaging winds the main concern with storms that do form. Localized flash flooding is also possible, mainly in northern and central sections of the state. Many folks will be celebrating July 4th outdoors, and the weather is a major concern given heat, thunderstorms, and lightning. People are advised to play it safe and monitor conditions closely during the holiday. Slightly cooler, drier, and more seasonal air is in the forecast Friday into the weekend.
