375 FXUS65 KLKN 020725 AFDLKN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Elko NV 1225 AM PDT Tue Jul 2 2024 .SYNOPSIS... High temperatures this afternoon will be near seasonal values. A warming trend is expected Wednesday through Sunday. By Sunday afternoon, maximum temperatures will be around ten degrees above normal for this time of year. Triple digit heat is possible in Elko Sunday afternoon for this first time this calendar year. Dry weather will prevail for at least the next seven days. && .SHORT TERM...Today through Wednesday night Broad cyclone flow aloft will prevail today and tonight. An Eastern Pacific ridge of high pressure will build eastward across Southern Nevada Wednesday and Wednesday night. Light and variable winds Wednesday morning will become west to northwest by afternoon. West to northwest wind gusts 25 to 30 mph are expected Wednesday afternoon, with the highest gusts anticipated in Elko County. High temperatures this afternoon will be near normal for this time of year. A warming trend will start Wednesday. .LONG TERM...Thursday through next Tuesday A large dome of persistent high pressure will settle in on Thursday setting up the weather pattern for the remainder of the forecast period. Ensemble guidance meanders the high pressure center over coastal California promoting northwest flow over the Silver State. Hot and dry conditions will build into the region by Thursday as daytime highs will gradually increase through the weekend across the CWA. Warmer than normal daytime highs will create elevated heat risk for the region beginning Saturday and continuing through the weekend. Time outside should be limited during the afternoon hours as temperatures in some locations will reach into the 100s. Steps should be taken to stay hydrated and check on those susceptible to heat related health issues. Model solutions diverge beginning early next week as some members slide the high pressure center and associated ridge further north up the west coast while other members begin to push the ridge eastward into the Four Corners region by Tuesday. && .AVIATION... VFR conditions expected over the next 24 hour period with mostly sunny skies and light northwesterly winds of 5-10kts over most of the region today. && .FIRE WEATHER... No fire weather concerns today through Wednesday morning. Elevated fire weather conditions are expected in parts of Northern and Central Nevada Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday evening due to minimum relative humidity values as low as 5 percent and west to northwest wind gusts 25 to 30 mph. && .LKN Watches/Warnings/Advisories...
