Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Fort Worth TX
101 AM CDT Mon Aug 12 2024

...New Short Term, Aviation...

.SHORT TERM... /NEW/
/Today and Tonight/

Expect a hot and dry day for all of North and Central Texas, with
afternoon highs ranging between 95-103. Heat indices will border
on criteria for a few locations today, but for now we will hold
off on issuing a Heat Advisory. Better moisture looks to return
later in the week, so this will continue to be reassessed as we
move further into the middle of the month. Otherwise, expect
southerly winds with gusts up to 20 mph and mostly sunny skies.

Overnight lows will stay warm in the mid to upper 70s, with a few
locations within the Metroplex staying at or above 80. Skies will
gradually clear overnight, resulting in quiet conditions.

.LONG TERM... /Issued 306 PM CDT Sun Aug 11 2024/
/Tuesday Through Next Weekend/

Grueling summer heat will be back in full swing this week as the
upper level ridge strengthens overhead once again. High
temperatures will top out in the triple digits for most locations
each day, with the hottest temperatures expected Thursday through
next weekend. The main caveat to this will be whether rain chances
will return late in the week as there are some indications of a
weakening in the ridge. However, even if this weakening occurs,
there is good agreement among ensemble guidance that the ridge
will strengthen again next weekend. Heat headlines will likely be
needed for much of the upcoming week as heat index values will
reach between 105-110 degrees for many areas on a daily basis.
Warm nights will continue to offer little relief from the heat, so
ensure you take all measures to protect yourself from heat-
related illnesses throughout the week.

.AVIATION... /NEW/
/06 TAFs/

Concerns...None at this time.

VFR conditions will prevail across all TAF sites through the
period. Southerly winds around 10 to 15 knots will continue
through tomorrow evening, with gusts upwards of 20 knots. Typical
afternoon cumulus will likely setup across the area with few to
scattered cirrus passing overhead through the day.
