690 FXUS64 KEWX 290636 AFDEWX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX 136 AM CDT Sat Jun 29 2024 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM... .SHORT TERM... (Today through Sunday) Issued at 114 AM CDT Sat Jun 29 2024 Nocturnal low stratus continues to expand in coverage across South- Central Texas overnight. Southeast winds are near 10-15 mph with temperatures remaining in the lower 80s at the present hour. Should see lows later this morning in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. Another hot end of June day is expected this afternoon with highs in the upper 90s to near 103 degrees. Humid conditions will allow for afternoon heat index values to max out near 108-112 degrees for areas mainly east of the I35 corridor and a Heat Advisory remains in effect for these locations today. Deep moisture could support a stray shower in the Coastal Plains today, but overall chances were too low to mention anything specific in the grids. Another round of nocturnal stratus is expected tonight with lows back in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. For Sunday, low-level winds remain more southeasterly through the day which may allow temperatures to be a degree or two cooler in the afternoon. Will still likely need a Heat Advisory for some portion of the area, but the size of the area will likely be smaller compared to today`s advisory. && .LONG TERM... (Sunday night through Friday) Issued at 114 AM CDT Sat Jun 29 2024 Subtropical Ridging will remain in control this weekend, and actually expand further into our region by early next week, resulting in our hottest area wide temperatures so far this Summer. Key words there: so far. Heat headlines are expected to continue so as always, be sure to avoid the heat if you can during peak heating, mainly between the hours of 11am-4pm, and if you do plan on spending time outdoors, apply plenty of sunscreen, where light, loose fitting clothing, and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. We may see a shower or two work its way inland by way of the seabreeze on Wednesday afternoon, but that would only be for portions of the Coastal Plains. Otherwise, we will maintain the status quo, with hot and dry conditions, and higher humidity along and east of the I-35 corridor. You may be wondering about the tropics as well. Unfortunately, very little moisture in the form of precipitation will be able to work into our region due to the strength of the Subtropical Ridge, but that could change by the time the end of next weekend rolls around. We will just have to wait and see on how things play out over the Atlantic with what looks to continue to be a very active season. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1204 AM CDT Sat Jun 29 2024 MVFR ceilings are beginning to develop across the I35 sites at the present hour and we should see these restrictions expand in coverage and remain in place through the mid-morning hours for the most part. Could see some breaks from time to time. Southerly flow will be breezy in the afternoon and evenings. Another round of MVFR ceilings is expected tomorrow night. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
