...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
  possible.

* WHERE...In Minnesota, in north central Minnesota, Koochiching and
  North Itasca Counties. In northeast Minnesota, Cook, Lake and
  central and northern St. Louis Counties. This includes the Tribal
  Lands of the Grand Portage Reservation and the Bois Forte Band,
  Deer Creek, Nett Lake and, Lake Vermilion areas. Recreation spots
  such as Voyageurs National Park. The entire Boundary Waters is

* WHEN...Through Tuesday evening.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff on top of saturated soils and still

  streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Elevated
  flows may lead to flooding on area rivers that are popular for
  waterfall viewing.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - Heavy rainfall is once again possible across areas of
    northern Minnesota that have not yet fully recovered from
    several rounds of heavy rain and flooding in late June.
    Streamflows are above normal and soils are saturated.

    Rainfall of up to one and half inches with localized areas of
    2 inches or more possible. The heaviest rain is expected to
    fall late tonight night into Tuesday morning.
  - Flood safety information can be found at
    www.weather.gov/safety/flood.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Monitor latest forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings.
Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take
action should flooding develop.

Portage and hiking trails may become slick and potentially
impassable and ponding of water could inundate low-lying campsites
across the Boundary Waters.

Visitors to area waterfalls should plan for wet and muddy trails and
be careful around rivers that will have slippery rocks, cliffs, and
strong currents.
