Survey Summary:
The National Weather Service has determined that a macroburst has
occurred in Northeast Cuyahoga, Western Lake and Northwest Geauga
Counties. This was done through a combination of NWS ground
surveys and reports from the public. The macroburst primarily
caused extensive damage to trees, wires, and power lines with
limited damage to a few houses due to downed trees. Based on this
observed damage, winds were estimated to be 70-90 mph across the
area with very small pockets of up to 100 mph.

For reference...
A macroburst is a thunderstorm downdraft affecting an area at least
2.5 miles wide with peak winds lasting 5 to 20 minutes. The
macroburst is a straight-line wind phenomena not associated with
rotation. Macrobursts can produce as much if not more damage as
tornadoes due to the size and scope of a macroburst.

NOTE:
The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to
change pending final review of the event and publication in
NWS Storm Data.
