Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
153 PM MDT Mon Jul 1 2024

.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Wednesday night...A short wave
trough moving through the area is already helping to initiate
showers and thunderstorms. Additional storms are expected to
develop and move east through the early evening hours. Wind
gusts to 40 mph and small hail are possible with the stronger
storms. After this evening, the remainder of the short term
period will be dry. Temperatures will stay a few degrees below
normal Tue and Wed. Breezy northwest winds will occur Wed
aft/eve south and east of Boise, with gusts 25 to 35 mph.

.LONG TERM...Thursday through Monday...High pressure will
dominate the weather pattern through the extended period. A
prolonged period of warming and drying is anticipated with a
probability of 30-50% of temperatures exceeding 105 degrees
Saturday into next week for lower valley locations. Overnight
temps this weekend are anticipated to drop into the upper 60s
during this period as well, adding to the potential for a
stretch of dangerous heat. Anyone with outdoor work/plans for
this weekend into next week should monitor the situation closely
as it evolves.

&&

.AVIATION...Generally VFR, with showers/thunderstorms over
higher terrain. Stronger storms could produce wind gusts of
25-35 knots and obscure terrain. Storms will be most prominent
between 20-02Z. High density altitude will become a factor by
the weekend into much of next week. Surface winds generally W/NW
10-20kt with gusts to 30kt possible through 02Z.

KBOI...VFR with passing clouds. Storms possible to the
north/northeast through 02Z. Winds W/NW 10-20kt with gusts to
30kt possible this afternoon.
