SHORT TERM...Today through Saturday night...A cold front moved across eastern Oregon late Wednesday evening and western Idaho early this morning, shifting all the convective weather east and out of our CWA. Today will be mostly sunny, breezy from the northwest, and much cooler and drier than yesterday, with high temps only in the mid 70s to lower 80s in the lower valleys and mid 60s to mid 70s in the mountains and higher valleys. An exception will be in Valley County where light rain showers will linger today. Also, patchy smoke due to wildfires will be found in southern areas today and possibly longer. The cooling is due to an upper trough from the Gulf of Alaska moving inland across the northwestern US. Low temps Friday morning will be in the mid 40s to lower 50s in the valleys and mid 30s to mid 40s in the mountains. Friday will begin another warming trend as the upper trough exits east. Expect 1 to 3 degrees warming over today in Idaho and 3 to 6 degrees warming in Oregon with sunny skies in all areas. An upper ridge will bring another 10 to 15 degrees warming to all areas on Saturday with high temps in the 80s and 90s, but without the monsoon moisture and thunderstorms like we had yesterday. LONG TERM...Sunday through Thursday...The next Pacific trough will arrive over the western U.S. this weekend, with the cold front expected to move through southeast Oregon and southwest Idaho on Sunday. This front will introduce cooler temperatures, breezy winds, and a chance for showers and thunderstorms both Sunday and Monday. Latest model guidance has reduced the extent of the shower/thunderstorm threat, however, keeping only a chance (15-30%) over west-central Idaho. Monday should be the coolest day of the week, then dry west-northwest flow will develop through the rest of the week and allow temperatures to trend a few degrees warmer each day. By Thursday, temperatures will climb to around 10 degrees above normal as high pressure strengthens over California and Nevada. && .BOI WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... ID...None.
