Rangeland Fire Danger Statement

.DISCUSSION...

Cool and humid conditions will be the rule today, with relative
humidity values staying above 50 percent. The strongest winds will be
west of the Missouri River, out of the northwest at 10 to 20 mph this
afternoon. A tough of low pressure will focus across eastern South
Dakota and western Minnesota today, with scattered off and on showers
rotating across the area. A few rumbles of thunder will be possible
as well. There will be breaks in the precipitation, particularly west
of the Missouri River during the mid to late morning hours and west
of the James River this evening. Dry weather will return late tonight
into early Friday morning, before a 20 percent chance of afternoon
showers and thunderstorms returns Friday afternoon.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low.  Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.


The outlook for Friday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low category.
