Heavy Rainfall and Storms in the Carolinas; Active Pattern in the West; Strong Winter Storm in Alaska

Showers and storms will continue across the Mid-Atlantic today. Some storms may produce heavy to excessive rainfall especially within the Carolinas which could lead to flash, urban and small stream flooding. Valley rain and mountain snow will continue to spread across the West today and Friday. A strong winter storm will bring blizzard conditions to the Arctic coastline in Alaska through Friday.

Tonight: Northwest wind 15 to 20 knots with gusts to around 25 knots easing to 5 to 10 knots after midnight. Mostly cloudy early in the evening then clearing. Waves 3 to 5 feet subsiding to 1 to 3 feet in the late evening and overnight.

Friday: Northwest wind 5 knots becoming east in the late morning and afternoon. Sunny in the morning then becoming partly sunny. Waves 1 foot or less.

Friday Night: East wind 15 to 20 knots. Snow likely in the evening, then snow after midnight. Waves 1 to 2 feet building to 2 to 4 feet after midnight.

Saturday: East wind 10 to 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots becoming northwest with gusts to around 20 knots in the afternoon. Snow in the morning. Waves 2 to 4 feet subsiding to 1 to 3 feet in the late morning and afternoon. note...wave height forecasts are for ice free areas.
