Critical fire weather conditions are likely to persist over parts of California and the Plains through Thursday. Elsewhere, a pair of cold fronts will deliver wet and stormy conditions to the eastern U.S. into Wednesday. Much cooler air will arrive in wake of the frontal passages with a return to below normal temperatures.
