Excessive heat with hot temperatures will be common throughout the holiday weekend from the Northwest and Great Basin to the Upper Midwest. On Friday, thunderstorms and locally heavy rain are expected in the eastern Carolinas and Southeast, heavy monsoonal rain may be possible in the Southwest and southern Rockies and Tropical Storm Elsa will gradually move into the eastern Caribbean Sea.
