Severe thunderstorms are expected across the Upper Midwest this afternoon and evening, especially from southern Minnesota and northern Iowa through central Wisconsin into central Lower Michigan. Damaging to destructive winds, large hail and locally heavy rain are likely. Excessive heat warnings and heat advisories are in effect for the Desert Southwest into parts of California through Thursday.
