Rain Providing Some Relief to Drought-Stricken Southern U.S.

A storm tracking across the southern U.S. will continue to bring heavy to excessive rainfall over portions of central Texas through the central Gulf Coast today. The Southeast U.S. will see heavier rain and a risk for severe thunderstorms Saturday. Tonight: East winds 10 to 15 knots, increasing to 15 to 20 knots after midnight. Seas 2 to 3 feet, building to 3 to 5 feet, occasionally to 6 feet after midnight. Wave detail: southeast 3 feet at 5 seconds, becoming northeast 5 feet at 5 seconds and south 4 feet at 5 seconds. A chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening, then showers with thunderstorms likely after midnight.

Saturday: North winds 20 to 25 knots with gusts up to 30 knots. Seas 5 to 8 feet, occasionally to 10 feet. Wave detail: northeast 8 feet at 7 seconds and west 5 feet at 5 seconds.
