Another Arctic Blast in the East; Eastern U.S. Winter Storm

A powerful Arctic blast will bring dangerously cold, record low temperatures to the upper Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic, Gulf Coast and Southeast U.S. this weekend. A rapidly deepening storm will produce widespread heavy snow and wind from the southern Appalachians across the Carolinas and southern Virginia into Sunday. This Afternoon: West to northwest winds 15 to 20 knots early, becoming 25 to 30 knots. Seas 1 to 2 feet. West of cosgrove shoal light, seas 1 to 2 feet, building to 3 to 5 feet, occasionally to 6 feet. Nearshore waters a light chop, becoming extremely rough. numerous showers.

Tonight: Northwest winds near 35 knots, decreasing to 30 to 35 knots. Seas building to 3 to 5 feet, occasionally to 6 feet. West of cosgrove shoal light, seas 7 to 10 feet, occasionally to 13 feet, building to 9 to 12 feet, occasionally to 15 feet. Nearshore waters extremely rough. Isolated showers.

Sunday: Northwest to north winds 25 to 30 knots, becoming northwest and decreasing to 20 to 25 knots. Seas 3 to 5 feet, occasionally to 6 feet. West of cosgrove shoal light, seas 8 to 11 feet, occasionally to 14 feet, subsiding to 7 to 9 feet, occasionally to 11 feet in the afternoon. Nearshore waters extremely rough, becoming very rough.

Sunday Night: Northwest to north winds near 20 knots, decreasing to 15 to 20 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet, occasionally to 5 feet. West of cosgrove shoal light, seas 6 to 7 feet, occasionally to 9 feet, subsiding to 4 to 5 feet, occasionally to 6 feet after midnight. Nearshore waters rough, becoming choppy.

Monday: North winds near 15 knots, decreasing to 10 to 15 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet, except 3 to 5 feet, occasionally to 6 feet west of cosgrove shoal light. Nearshore waters a moderate chop, becoming a light to moderate chop.

Monday Night: North to northeast winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas 1 to 2 feet, except 3 to 4 feet, occasionally to 5 feet west of cosgrove shoal light. Nearshore waters a light to moderate chop.

Tuesday: Northeast winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas 1 to 2 feet. Nearshore waters a light to moderate chop.

Tuesday Night: Northeast to east winds near 10 knots. Seas 1 to 2 feet. Nearshore waters a light chop.

Wednesday: Northeast to east winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas 1 to 2 feet. Nearshore waters smooth to a light chop.
