A strong atmospheric river will continue heavy rain over southern California through Friday. The heaviest rainfall is ongoing today in the Los Angeles Basin. Flash and urban flooding is possible. A prolonged heavy snowfall has begun over the Sierra Nevada Mountains and will continue through Friday. Travel will become increasingly difficult over the passes due to snow and strong winds. Today: South wind 5 to 15 knots veering southwest less than 10 knots late. Cloudy. A slight chance of snow showers through early afternoon. Waves subsiding to 1 to 2 feet, then building to 2 to 3 feet.

Tonight: West wind 5 to 15 knots veering northwest 15 to 20 knots by midnight, then veering north late. Partly cloudy through late evening then becoming cloudy. Waves building to 3 to 6 feet occasionally to 8 feet.

Thursday: Northeast wind 15 to 20 knots veering east in the afternoon. Cloudy. Waves building to 4 to 7 feet occasionally to 9 feet, then subsiding to 2 to 4 feet.

Thursday Night: Southeast wind 15 to 25 knots with gale force gusts up to 34 knots. Snow showers. Waves building to 4 to 7 feet occasionally to 9 feet.
