Tracking Late December Winter Storm Expected to Impact the Northern Plains through the Northeast U.S.

A winter storm system will rapidly intensify over the Midwest on Sunday and track through the Great Lakes on Monday. Periods of heavy snow are anticipated across the Upper Great Lakes late Sunday and continuing into Monday. Sunday: South winds 10 to 15 kt becoming southwest 15 to 25 kt late. Areas of dense fog in the morning. Showers and slight chance of thunderstorms. Waves 1 to 3 ft.

Sunday Night: West gales to 40 kt increasing to storm force winds to 50 kt. Rain and snow in the evening, then chance of snow overnight. Freezing spray overnight. Waves building to 10 to 14 ft occasionally to 18 ft.

Monday: West storm force winds to 50 kt becoming northwest gales to 40 kt in the afternoon. Freezing spray in the morning. Snow likely in the morning, then chance of snow in the afternoon. Waves 12 to 16 ft occasionally to 21 ft.
