Fire Weather Threats Continue in the West; Wintry Weather from Upper Midwest to New England

High pressure in the west continues to send weather systems into the Great Basin, and this is keeping fire weather threats elevated to critical across southern California. A series of weather systems will bring widespread snow from the Upper Midwest to the Northeast U.S., with locally heavier snow amounts on the lee side of the Great Lakes.

...SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH

Synopsis: A weak trough axis has moved through the area and will lead to a weak northeast flow over the waters today. A frontal boundary will move into the waters by early this evening, then push offshore tonight. A moderate to strong offshore flow will occur overnight through Friday as high pressure builds into the area behind the cold front. Widespread showers are expected tonight into Friday morning as moisture increases ahead of a strong upper level disturbance. Rain chances are expected to diminish through Friday night. However, the approach of an upper disturbance is expected to return showers and possible thunderstorms for the weekend. The offshore flow will become weak to moderate over the weekend. A weak northeasterly flow is expected by Monday along with a chance of showers.
