Heavy snow and hazardous travel for portions of the Great Lakes, Northeast, and New England

Heavy snow, bitterly cold temperatures, and treacherous travel will be likely from the Great Lakes to the Northeast, and into New England over the next couple of days. Heavy Lake Effect snow of one to two feet will impact areas downwind of Lake Eerie and Ontario. Widespread snowfall of 6 to 12 inches will also impact much of northern New England.

Tonight: West winds to 30 knots becoming northwest. Lake effect snow. Waves 5 to 9 feet. Waves occasionally around 11 feet.

Wednesday: Northwest winds to 30 knots becoming west. Lake effect snow likely in the morning, then scattered snow showers in the afternoon. Waves 8 to 11 feet. Waves occasionally around 14 feet.

Wednesday Night: West winds to 30 knots becoming northwest and diminishing to 15 to 20 knots. Snow showers likely. Waves 8 to 11 feet subsiding to 3 to 6 feet. Waves occasionally around 14 feet.

Thursday: Northwest winds 15 to 25 knots becoming west. Lake effect snow showers likely. Waves 3 to 5 feet subsiding to 1 to 3 feet. Waves occasionally around 6 feet.

Friday: Southwest winds 15 to 20 knots. A chance of snow showers during the day, then snow showers likely friday night. Waves 2 feet or less.

Saturday: West winds 15 to 20 knots becoming southwest 5 to 15 knots. A chance of snow showers during the day, then a chance of flurries saturday night. Waves 1 to 3 feet. the water temperature off rochester is 42 degrees.
