Severe Thunderstorm and Fire Weather Threats in the Central U.S. Today; Strong Storm in Western Alaska

There is an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe thunderstorms today with threats for significant severe hail and tornado potential over southern Iowa into northern Missouri and west-central Illinois. Elevated to critical fire weather is possible today due to gusty winds and dry conditions over parts of the southern High Plains and northeastern Montana.

Tonight: East gales to 40 kt becoming southeast to 30 kt. Chance of showers and thunderstorms this evening, then slight chance of showers and thunderstorms overnight. Waves 6 to 9 ft occasionally to 12 ft.

Wednesday: Southeast winds to 30 kt becoming south 15 to 25 kt late in the morning, then becoming southwest 10 to 20 kt in the afternoon. Chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning, then chance of showers and slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Waves 4 to 7 ft occasionally to 9 ft subsiding to 4 to 6 ft occasionally to 8 ft.

Wednesday Night: Southwest winds 15 to 25 kt becoming west. Waves 4 to 6 ft occasionally to 8 ft.

Thursday: West winds 10 to 20 kt backing to south 10 to 15 kt. Waves 2 to 4 ft subsiding to 1 to 3 ft.

Thursday Night: Northwest winds 5 to 10 kt increasing to 10 to 20 kt overnight. Chance of rain showers in the evening. Waves 1 to 2 ft building to 2 to 4 ft.

Friday: Northwest winds 10 to 20 kt becoming west to 30 kt in the afternoon. Waves 4 to 6 ft occasionally to 8 ft.

Friday Night: West winds to 30 kt becoming northwest. Waves 4 to 6 ft occasionally to 8 ft.

Saturday: Northwest winds to 30 kt diminishing to 15 to 25 kt. Waves 4 to 7 ft occasionally to 9 ft.

Sunday: Northwest winds 10 to 20 kt becoming southwest. Waves 1 to 3 ft.
