Severe Thunderstorms Possible for the Central Gulf Coast; More Storms Move into the West

Strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible over the next several days along the central Gulf Coast and portions of the southeast. Storms may contain damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes. Meanwhile, more storms will bring heavy rain, with heavy snow in the mountains to California and the southern Rockies through the weekend.

Tonight: Southwest winds 5 to 10 knots along the coast to southwest 10 to 15 knots in the gulf stream. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Period 8 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop.

Saturday: South winds 10 to 15 knots along the coast to south southwest 10 to 15 knots in the gulf stream. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Period 9 seconds. Intracoastal waters a light chop.

Saturday Night: South southwest winds 10 to 15 knots along the coast to south southwest 15 to 20 knots in the gulf stream. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet. Period 9 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A slight chance of showers after midnight.

Sunday: South southwest winds 15 to 20 knots with gusts to around 30 knots along the coast to south southwest 20 to 25 knots with gusts to around 35 knots in the gulf stream. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet building to 5 to 7 feet with occasional seas to 9 feet in the afternoon. Period 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. A slight chance of showers in the morning...then a chance of showers in the afternoon.

Sunday Night: Southwest winds 20 to 25 knots with gusts to around gale force along the coast to southwest 25 to 30 knots with gusts into gale force conditions in the gulf stream. Along the coast, seas 4 to 6 feet with occasional seas to 8 feet. In the gulf stream, seas 6 to 8 feet with occasional seas to 10 feet building to 8 to 10 feet with occasional seas to 13 feet after midnight. Intracoastal waters rough in exposed areas. A chance of thunderstorms in the evening. Showers through the night. thunderstorms after midnight.

Monday: West winds 20 to 25 knots with gusts to around gale force along the coast to west 25 to 30 knots with gusts into gale force conditions in the gulf stream. Seas 3 to 5 feet with occasional seas to 6 feet along the coast and 7 to 9 feet with occasional to 11 feet in the gulf stream. Intracoastal waters rough in exposed areas. A chance of showers.

Monday Night: West northwest winds 15 to 20 knots along the coast to west northwest 20 to 25 knots with gusts to around 35 knots in the gulf stream. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet along the coast and 7 to 9 feet with occasional to 11 feet in the gulf stream. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop.

Tuesday: West northwest winds 10 to 15 knots along the coast to west northwest 15 to 20 knots in the gulf stream. Seas 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet along the coast and 6 to 8 feet with occasional to 10 feet in the gulf stream. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop.

Tuesday Night: West northwest winds 10 to 15 knots becoming 5 to 10 knots late in the evening. Seas 2 to 3 feet along the coast and 3 to 5 feet with occasional to 6 feet in the gulf stream. Intracoastal waters a light chop.

Wednesday: North northwest winds around 5 knots becoming south southwest in the morning...then becoming south in the afternoon. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Intracoastal waters a light chop.
