Excessive Heat Spreads East; Many Areas with Heavy Rain Threats

Hot and muggy conditions are forecast to continue across the Midwest and Northeast, while spreading eastward. A frontal boundary bringing very heavy rains to the Upper Midwest will sag southward bringing cooler temperatures to areas to the north, including the city of Chicago. Heavy rains will also be possible along the Texas Gulf Coast from a tropical disturbance.

A dissipating front will drift south toward the islands tonight and Tuesday, causing the ridge to weaken. The front will stall north of the islands and weaken to a trough Tuesday, and then dissipate on Wednesday. High pressure will strengthen far northeast of the area on Thursday and Friday. $$
